Date: November 25th, 2019 | Location: Mount Saint Dominic Academy
Caldwell, NJ ~ The Leonidas Foundation & Mount Saint Dominic Academy were proud to welcome the first cohort of school’s The L.E.O. Program at its annual Pinning Ceremony on Wednesday evening in Savio Hall at the school’s Ramsey New Jersey campus.
Seventeen junior students were ceremoniously pinned in anticipation of the January 2020 commencement of their L.E.O. Program course. In the presence of current and graduated L.E.O. Program students, family, friends, Leonidas Foundation representatives, and members of the Mount Saint Dominic religious and lay communities, the students heard empowering statements of best wishes from Leonidas Foundation representatives, their peers, and school administration.
Following a welcome blessing by Sr. Frances Sullivan, Head of Mount Saint Dominic, students were greeted by Kristen Zosche, Director of Curriculum & Instruction. Leonidas Foundation Trustee Teddy Vagias, whose late son is the program’s namesake, offered a powered call to action expressing the Foundation and the school's commitment to investing in the students with the expectation that the students will commit to the coursework and interactive learning experiences. Leonidas Foundation Vice President Alex Cucciniello spoke to the attendees about the Foundation’s efforts in conjunction with Mount Saint Dominic to formulate and develop the L.E.O. Program.
The inductees were addressed by Mount Saint Dominic alumnus Jessica Iacullo, CEO & Founder of Hungry Grl Big City LLC. Since graduating from The Mount and Pitt, Jessica has developed a well-known Instagram profile with a connected blog, Facebook, and Twitter discussing food, recipes, and food trends from all over the world. The Instagram page has over 32,000 followers and counting. Combined across channels, the following and reach exceeds 35,000 partnering with brands and companies such as Cosmopolitan, Business Insider, Heinz, Boars Head, Forbes, New York Jets, Citi Bank, and US Open, among others.
One of the highlights of the evening came when L.E.O. Program student Katerina Holevas, Leo’s cousin, spoke to those gathered about the opportunity being presented to the 17 Mount Saint Dominic students. She conveyed the significance of the opportunity that L.E.O. offers the students involved and highlighted the Program’s main focuses: leadership, entrepreneurship, and opportunity.
The new L.E.O. students were then pinned by Sr. Fran, Foundation Vice President Alex Cucciniello, Dr. Muoio, and Teddy Vagias. Dr. Marissa Muoio concluded the evening’s festivities with words of encouragement to the new L.E.O. Program students and their families.

tHE LEONIDAS FOUNDATION CELEBRATES GIVING TUESDAY WITH #FUND4LEO, JOINING MILLIONS AROUND THE WORLD PARTICIPATING IN THE GLOBAL GENEROSITY MOVEMENT
Date: November 22th, 2019 | Location: Wycoff, NJ
Wyckoff, NJ ~ Friday, November 22, 2019 – This GivingTuesday, The Leonidas Foundation will inspire generosity by raising money to support charitable initiatives such as our Holiday Toy Drive and the L.E.O. Program.
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 3rd, and throughout the year.
The Leonidas Foundation is joining #GivingTuesday to capture the giving spirit of the holidays in an effort to help those in need. With the hustle bustle of the holiday season and end of the year approaching, #GivingTuesday is a means to amplify the Leonidas Foundation’s mission to honor Leo’s life by helping those in need through our humanitarian and educational outreach.
“We are excited at the opportunity to participate in GivingTuesday’s incredible initiative to spread charity and philanthropy,” said Teddy Vagias, Trustee of The Leonidas Foundation. “Working with other organizations who share our mission of giving of their time, energy, and resources to better the world is truly a privilege.”
GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets 14.2 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved.
"GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year." said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. "With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world."
